Embracing the Simple Life at Vinagra Village

Summer lights

As summer unfolds, the early mornings and late nights remain refreshingly cool, a welcome reprieve from the heat. This year’s spring was notably wet, painting the landscape with lush greenery. Just last weekend, a canopy of grey and silver clouds graced the sky, offering us a delicate rain. Yet, true to form, the long summer days are steadily growing warmer.

Alentejo has always been a summer gem, with its picturesque rolls of hay scattered across the pastures. However, the scenery is evolving, now adorned with flourishing almond trees, vines, and olive trees, adding a new dimension to its beauty.

At Vinagra Village, we cherish the old ways, nurturing a close-knit community where everyone contributes. While we tackle much of the work ourselves, there’s always more to learn about living a simple, back-to-the-earth life. The invigorating fresh air, the warmth of the sun on your back, and the joy of real, homegrown food – these are the treasures we hold dear. Our aim is to be as self-sufficient, self-reliant, and independent as possible, taking pride in our ability to care for ourselves.

Our vegetable garden is a source of immense satisfaction. We grow tomatoes, lettuce, string beans, zucchini, potatoes, onions, raspberries, and cucumbers – all nurtured by our own hands. Whenever possible, we embrace the do-it-yourself approach. Living well doesn’t require much; it’s about embracing simplicity.

For a long time, I avoided gardening, often saying, “I don’t know what to do.” but now, with the guidance of a gardener and a bit of direction, it’s become a rewarding and straightforward task. Embracing the simple life at Vinagra Village has brought a profound sense of fulfillment and connection to the earth.

We invite you to join us on this journey, rediscovering the joys of self-sufficiency and the beauty of nature.
